**The Advantage+ campaign experience is Meta's AI-assisted setup for Sales, Leads and App promotion. When you pick one of those objectives, Ads Manager applies Advantage+ budget, audience and placements by default so delivery can find efficient opportunities with less manual structure. You still choose the conversion location, the optimisation event, creatives, hard geo and age controls, and whether to guide the system with audience suggestions. This lesson shows what is on by default, what you should still configure, and how campaign score fits without becoming a vanity metric.**

> **Key takeaways**
>
> - **Sales, Leads, App promotion** open Advantage+ by default in eligible accounts.
> - Advantage+ on means **budget, audience and placements** are AI-assisted unless you constrain them.
> - **Hard controls remain:** location, minimum age, exclusions, language, schedule, special ad category.
> - **Campaign score** (draft) and **opportunity score** (account) track recommendation adoption, not ROAS.
> - Politics/social-issue and pharmaceuticals campaigns may lack some Advantage+ features.

*Checked 5 November 2026 (CET) against Meta Business Help Center, Meta for Developers docs, Meta for Business news posts and the Ads Manager UI labels cited in Sources. Meta renames and rolls out features by account, so confirm labels and availability in your own Ads Manager. "Our view" marks MentionX opinion. Ledgerline is a fictional company used for illustration.*

## What "Advantage+ on" actually means

| Layer | Advantage+ behaviour | What you still set |
|---|---|---|
| Campaign budget | Advantage+ campaign budget allocates spend across ad sets | Daily or lifetime budget amount, optional bid strategy |
| Audience | Advantage+ audience uses suggestions as guides and can expand | Locations, age floor, exclusions, language, custom/lookalike suggestions |
| Placements | Advantage+ placements across Meta inventory | Rare exclusions only when policy or brand safety requires them |
| Creative | Advantage+ creative enhancements (separate toggle per ad) | Source assets, copy, CTA, brand kit |

Meta's Help Center notes that even when you see Advantage+ off, campaigns can still benefit if you keep the broadest workable settings and use other Advantage+ features.

## How the unified setup changed day-to-day work

Older accounts remember separate "Advantage+ shopping" creation flows and a clear Manual vs Advantage+ choice. Through 2025–2026 Meta pushed a single creation path: choose objective → Advantage+ defaults for eligible goals → customise. Some accounts no longer show a prominent Manual setup step for Leads. That is intentional product direction, not a UI bug.

Practical consequences:

1. Fewer ad sets. One or two ad sets with distinct offers beat eight micro-audiences.
2. Creative volume moves up a level. The system needs distinct ads, not distinct interest piles.
3. Reporting shifts to campaign-level efficiency when Advantage+ campaign budget is on.
4. Learning is easier to reset by accident if you keep editing the same ad set.

## Campaign score vs opportunity score

| Score | Where you see it | What it measures |
|---|---|---|
| Campaign score | During creation, on the draft | 0–100 based on recommendations applied before publish |
| Opportunity score | Account Overview / Campaigns | 0–100 across the account's open recommendations |

Neither score guarantees results. *Our view:* use them as a hygiene checklist (missing Pixel, too many exclusions, weak creative diversity). Do not optimise the score instead of pipeline.

## When to constrain Advantage+

Keep Advantage+ broad unless you have a concrete reason:

| Reason to constrain | Example |
|---|---|
| Legal / special category | Housing ads with restricted targeting |
| Brand safety | Exclude Audience Network for a regulated brand after measured junk traffic |
| Budget fencing | Separate budgets for a partner co-op that cannot share spend |
| Geo offers | Different pricing pages by country that cannot share one landing URL |

Do not constrain because "we always excluded Audience Network." Measure it first (lesson 5 and 17).

## Step-by-step: create an Advantage+ Leads campaign

1. Ads Manager → Create → **Leads**.
2. Confirm Advantage+ indicators for budget, audience and placements.
3. Set campaign name with your convention; set special ad category if required (lesson 14).
4. Choose conversion location (website, Instant Form, Messenger, Instagram, WhatsApp).
5. Select the optimisation event with enough weekly volume (lesson 4 and 7).
6. Add location and age floor; optionally add a custom audience as a **suggestion**.
7. Upload diversified creatives (lesson 8), review Advantage+ creative enhancements (lesson 9).
8. Check campaign score recommendations that affect signal quality; ignore cosmetic ones if they conflict with brand rules.
9. Publish with a spend limit you can survive if delivery ramps fast.

## Worked example: Ledgerline

*Ledgerline is a fictional accounts-payable software company. Details are illustrative.*

| Setting | Value (illustrative) |
|---|---|
| Objective | Leads |
| Advantage+ | Budget, audience, placements on |
| Conversion location | Website |
| Optimisation | Schedule (CRM) |
| Geo | Germany, Austria, Switzerland, United Kingdom |
| Age | 25–65+ |
| Suggestions | 180-day website visitors + customer list (as suggestions) |
| Ad sets | 1 (demo offer) |
| Ads | 6 (3 themes × 2 formats) |
| Daily budget | \$600 |

### Walkthrough

1. Ledgerline deleted four interest-based ad sets that each spent \$30/day and never left learning.
2. They moved to one Advantage+ Leads ad set and invested the saved ops time in two new creative themes.
3. Opportunity score rose after they fixed a disconnected Instagram account recommendation. CPL did not move until creatives shipped.
4. Competitor A chased a 100 campaign score and enabled every enhancement, including text that violated brand legal review. Ledgerline kept score secondary to brand QA.

> **Pro move:** screenshot the Advantage+ toggles on the day you publish. When someone asks three weeks later "did we run Advantage+?", you have evidence instead of memory.

## What to tell stakeholders who miss "manual targeting"

Leadership often asks why buyers can no longer "just target CFOs in Berlin." Explain Advantage+ in business language: Meta still uses your hard geo and age floor, still uses your conversion event, and still needs strong creative. What changed is that interest piles and micro-ad-sets are weak controls compared with retrieval that matches creatives to people. Show them the creative matrix (lesson 8) as the new control surface.

If a regulated brand must limit reach, use special ad categories and documented exclusions — not nostalgia setups that starve delivery.

## Opportunity score triage

Not every opportunity score recommendation deserves a click. Triage like this:

| Recommendation type | Default action |
|---|---|
| Fix broken Pixel / missing partner integration | Do immediately |
| Broaden placements you excluded without data | Review with a 28-day placement report first |
| Add budget | Only if CPA/pipeline supports it |
| Enable every creative enhancement | Filter through brand allow-list (lesson 9) |
| Cosmetic naming suggestions | Optional |

Campaign score on a draft is useful as a pre-flight checklist. It is not a substitute for CRM truth.

## Common mistakes

- **Recreating the old manual structure** inside Advantage+ with many tiny ad sets.
- **Turning Advantage+ audience off** to force a 2% lookalike that starves delivery.
- **Chasing opportunity score** while ignoring Event Match Quality.
- **Editing daily** and permanently living in learning limited.
- **Assuming Advantage+ shopping is gone** without checking the current Sales setup labels in your account.

## Try it yourself

Draft a Sales or Leads campaign. List every control still editable with Advantage+ on. Mark which ones your brand policy actually requires. Discard the draft.

## Quick quiz

**1. Which objectives default into the Advantage+ campaign experience?**

*Answer:* Sales, App promotion and Leads in eligible accounts.

**2. Does campaign score predict ROAS?**

*Answer:* No. It reflects recommendation adoption on the draft, not expected performance.

**3. What is a good reason to exclude a placement?**

*Answer:* Measured brand-safety or policy needs — not habit.

## What should you check before the next lesson?

- You can explain Advantage+ budget vs ad set budget in one sentence.
- You know which objective your next campaign will use.
- You have a conversion event with realistic weekly volume.

## Common questions

**Is Advantage+ shopping still a separate campaign type?** Meta folded much of Advantage+ shopping into the broader Advantage+ sales experience inside the unified campaign setup. Exact labels vary by account; check Ads Manager for Sales with Advantage+ on.

**Can I still run a fully manual campaign?** Manual controls remain available, but for Sales, Leads and App promotion the Advantage+ setup is the default path. Tightening some settings can turn Advantage+ off for that part of the campaign.

**Does a high campaign score guarantee results?** No. Campaign score and opportunity score only measure how many of Meta's recommendations you applied. They are not performance predictions.
