**This free Microsoft Ads track teaches marketers to govern Microsoft Advertising from account ownership and Google Import through Search, Shopping, audiences, bidding, UET, consent, offline feedback and current AI Max or Copilot advertising opportunities. It prioritises trustworthy inputs and reviewable decisions over copied platform settings.**

> **Key takeaways**
> - Build an owned, verified and financially governed account before launching campaigns.
> - Review Microsoft-specific matching, distribution, imports and product support rather than assuming Google parity.
> - Make goals, consent, values and duplicate controls reliable before automated bidding depends on them.
> - Evaluate current AI features with dated evidence, separate release states and no citation guarantees.

*Checked 8 November 2026 (CET) against official Microsoft Advertising help, technical guidance and dated product announcements. The paid chapters of Microsoft's AI-marketer guide were reviewed separately. Ledgerline is a fictional desk-accessories storefront; its products, decisions, figures and CRM examples are illustrative.*

## What is in this track?

The sequence follows the decisions a marketer must make, not the order of every menu in the platform. Measurement lessons can be read early when preparing a launch or inheriting an account.

## Who is it for?

This course is for in-house marketers, merchant growth teams, agencies, marketing operations specialists and founders who oversee Microsoft Advertising. It is practical marketing education, not a developer tutorial or a promise that every product is available in every account.

The fictional Ledgerline example is a desk-accessories storefront with occasional bulk-office enquiries. That adaptation makes product feeds, Shopping and CRM feedback concrete. It is not a real merchant, and it should not be confused with software-company examples elsewhere in the Academy. Every financial scenario is illustrative, not a benchmark or a Microsoft price.

## How does it differ from the Google Ads course?

The [Google Ads track](https://mentionx.ai/learn/google-ads/google-ads-for-marketers) covers transferable paid-media foundations and Google's own products. This track focuses on Microsoft's account and bill-to relationships, import mappings, network distribution, LinkedIn profile signals, current bidding labels, Merchant Center behaviour, UET and Microsoft-specific conversion routes.

Similar names are not specifications. Microsoft Performance Max currently has different asset support from Google. Microsoft AI Max has its own eligibility, defaults, import inheritance and reporting. Negative semantics, audience modes and native experiment rules also require destination-specific review.

## Which path should you take?

| Your immediate job | Suggested sequence | Deliverable |
| --- | --- | --- |
| New advertiser or founder | Strategy and setup, then measurement before delivery | Owned account brief and launch gates |
| Agency inheriting an account | Setup, import, tracking, goals and operating review | Destination diff and remediation register |
| Search specialist | Research, matching, structure, creative and pages | Reviewable intent and creative plan |
| Merchant marketer | Feeds, Shopping, Performance Max and profitability | Product acceptance contract and campaign brief |
| Marketing operations | UET, goals, consent, offline feedback and reporting | Measurement contract and reconciliation ledger |
| AI-search stakeholder | Foundations plus the final AI Max and Copilot lesson | Separate paid and organic evidence plan |

The table names topics rather than requiring another set of lesson links. Use the curriculum above to enter the relevant lesson, then follow its previous, next and related navigation.

## What should you prepare?

Gather authorised account information, the business outcome definitions, delivery markets, product or service facts, a finance-approved value basis and an owner for website or CRM measurement. Read access is helpful but optional; the exercises can be completed with fictional records.

Do not collect passwords, identity scans, payment-card details, raw customer lists or API tokens in a course workbook. The exercises produce plans, audits and acceptance criteria. Account creation, spending, access changes, identity submission, uploads and production implementation remain separately authorised work.

> **Pro move:** Begin with an unresolved-assumptions register. For every attractive campaign idea, record the missing evidence, responsible owner and consequence if the assumption is wrong. This keeps a launch deadline from silently becoming permission to ignore a measurement or eligibility gap.

## How are facts and recommendations separated?

Official product behaviour is supported by the sources at the end of each lesson. Workflow suggestions, review cadences and decision frameworks are editorial recommendations, not claims that Microsoft requires one universal operating method.

Current release state matters. The October 2026 update announces CAPI as generally available, identifies particular pilots and rollouts, and describes a Performance Max landing-page report as starting in mid-November. The lessons preserve those distinctions as of the check date rather than presenting every announcement as a feature already available to all accounts.

Some help pages contain older labels or wording that lags dated announcements. The course explains consequential differences, uses the current relevant source and asks readers to verify the actual account before implementation. No account was accessed, campaign activated or production tracking tested in preparing this course.

## What does each lesson ask you to do?

Each lesson contains a direct answer, key takeaways, substantive explanations, a practical table, a Ledgerline worked example, a walkthrough, common mistakes, an exercise, a three-question quiz and matching FAQ material. Sources and navigation are kept separate from the instructional body.

Exercises are designed to expose decisions, not generate activity for its own sake. A completed worksheet should show the business meaning, source evidence, owner, acceptance test and remaining limitation. A campaign screenshot without those details is not a complete operating plan.

## What should you have at the end?

You should have a strategy and ownership brief, a controlled import plan, a Microsoft-specific intent map, truthful creative and destination checks, an audience specification, a pacing framework, a feed contract and a measurement design with explicit consent and duplicate handling.

You should also be able to reconcile Microsoft reports with GA4 and business records, distinguish incidents from experiments and explain current AI advertising without promising organic citations. A well-governed account does not enable every feature; it uses supported features for clear jobs and keeps uncertainty visible.

## Try it yourself

Before starting, write the three decisions you need this course to improve. Add the current evidence, the person who owns it and the risk of acting before it is verified. Choose a learning path and create a blank decision log.

At the end, revisit those decisions. Record what is now supported, what remains conditional and what should not be promised. Keep launch and implementation approvals separate from completing the reading.
