Short answer

To get Quora answers seen and cited, answer real questions where you're an expert, make each answer complete without leaving Quora, and disclose your affiliation. Quora allows self-promotion only within a sincere, helpful and direct answer, bans affiliate links, and requires product promotion to come from a Professional Business Profile ([Quora](https://business.quora.com/resources/writing-on-quora-as-a-business)). Disclose affiliations in the answer or credential ([Quora](https://help.quora.com/hc/en-us/articles/360055133711-What-is-Quora-s-policy-on-disclosing-affiliations-in-answers)).

Key takeaways
  • Quora answers still appear in some AI answers, but they're one source among many.
  • Quora's rules require brands to disclose affiliation and answer the question asked.
  • Choose questions your buyers ask, and write specific, honest answers that stand alone.
  • Track citations of your answers, and limit time spent compared with other channels.

Facts are from Quora's help centre and business guidance, accessed 30 Oct 2026. Points marked "Our view" are interpretation.

Checked on 31 October 2026. "Our view" marks MentionX opinion. Ledgerline is a fictional company used for illustration.

01Is Quora still cited in 2026?

Our view: there's no public, independent dataset we can verify that shows how often each AI engine cites Quora today, so treat any headline figure with caution. The reliable approach is to test it yourself: run your buyer prompts in engines that show sources and count quora.com citations over a few months. If Quora rarely appears for your category, spend the time on sources that do. If it appears often, the questions being cited tell you exactly where to contribute.

02What are Quora's rules for brands?

From Quora's business guidance (Quora) and affiliation policy (Quora):

RuleDetail
Self-promotionOnly within a sincere, helpful, direct response; otherwise spam
Self-promotional linksNot allowed unless they form a direct, helpful response
Product promotionMust be associated with a Professional Business Profile
Affiliate linksNot allowed
Standalone answersAn answer should be understandable without leaving Quora
Copied contentBlock-quote it with clear attribution
DisclosureState relevant affiliations in the answer or credential

Quora defines a relevant affiliation as any involvement a reasonable observer would think important for interpreting your views, and says to disclose when in doubt (Quora).

03Brand profile or individual profile?

Quora describes both (Quora):

Business profileIndividual profile
Uses "we"Uses "I"
Brand credibility and awarenessThought leadership
FAQs about your companyPersonal experience in your industry
Questions naming your company or productActionable advice

Our view: use the business profile for questions about your product, and disclosed individual experts for broader industry questions.

04How do you choose questions?

Quora suggests answering where you're a subject expert, looking for missing information in existing answers, and trying highly followed questions or followed questions with no answers (Quora). Our view: also prioritise questions that match your buyer prompts, and those that AI engines already cite; log cited quora.com URLs with the method in finding Reddit threads AI engines cite.

05How do you write an answer that gets cited?

Our view:

  1. Answer the question in the first two sentences.
  2. Explain why, with specifics you can back up.
  3. Use lists for steps and options.
  4. Mention alternatives fairly, including competitors.
  5. Disclose your affiliation briefly and clearly.
  6. Cite sources; Quora suggests footnotes in square brackets (Quora).
Weak answerStronger answer
"Try [Product]! Link."Direct answer, three options with trade-offs, disclosed mention of yours
Copy of a blog post with a linkRewritten answer that stands alone
Vague claimsSpecific steps or examples

06What gets answers removed?

BehaviourWhy
Promotional answers that don't answer the questionSpam under Quora's rules
Affiliate linksNot allowed
Link-only answersMust be understandable on Quora
Undisclosed affiliationBreaches disclosure policy
Copied content without attributionBreaches copying rule

07How do you track results?

Quora offers analytics on views, upvotes and shares on your stats page (Quora). Our view: combine those with monthly AI prompt reruns that log whether your answers, or the questions you answered, appear as cited sources.

08How much time should you spend?

Our view: Quora suggests looking for questions you can answer in under ten minutes (Quora). Two or three careful answers a week from one or two experts is a sustainable, realistic start. Revisit top answers twice a year and update facts and prices.

09How does Quora compare with Reddit?

Our view: Reddit is organised around communities with their own moderators and norms, so participation depends heavily on each subreddit's rules. Quora is organised around questions and topics, with platform-wide rules and a formal business profile. Both reward genuinely helpful answers and penalise promotion. See participating on Reddit without spamming.

Exercise

Find five Quora questions matching your buyer prompts. For one, write an answer that states the answer in two sentences, compares three options fairly and includes a clear affiliation disclosure.

11Checklist

  • Business profile set up for product answers
  • Expert individual profiles with clear credentials
  • Affiliation disclosed in every relevant answer
  • No affiliate links or link-only answers
  • Answers stand alone and cite sources
  • Monthly prompt reruns

12From MentionX data: how often brands appear by prompt typeOriginal data

Method. Read-only aggregate queries over MentionX scans from 22 August to 29 October 2026 (UTC): 2,217 engine runs (2,154 completed) across 18 anonymised projects and six engines.

Quora answers often address recommendation and problem questions. In the MentionX sample, those prompts mention brands far less often than brand-specific prompts:

IntentBrand mentionedShare of voice
Brand-specific100%64.3
Comparison91.9%44.6
Recommendation29.2%26.8
Best-of26.6%22.7
Problem5.7%7.7

Cited URLs come from many page types:

Cited URL typeShare of 9,750 citations
Blog or article19.6%
Homepage10.0%
Review page2.7%
Docs2.6%
Pricing1.9%
Wikipedia1.6%

Our view: community answers aren't a tracked category here, so treat this as a guide. A specific, honest Quora answer can be one more source for recommendation prompts where engines rarely name a brand.

Limits. A convenience sample of mostly B2B software projects, run through engine APIs, which can behave differently from the consumer apps. Perplexity, Copilot and DeepSeek figures come from a single day (26 October 2026), so treat them as a snapshot, not a trend.

13Worked example: Ledgerline tests Quora for a quarter

Ledgerline is a fictional accounts-payable tool. Figures are illustrative.

Ledgerline's content team wonders whether Quora is worth the time. It finds 15 recent questions about accounts-payable software and invoice approvals that buyers ask.

A product specialist answers eight of them over a month, in her own name, with her affiliation stated in her profile and in each answer. Each answer solves the question first, mentions Ledgerline only where relevant and includes alternatives where they fit better. She links to Ledgerline's docs only when they directly answer the question.

After a quarter, the team checks its prompt set for citations of the answers and compares the time spent with results from other channels.

14How long should a Quora answer be?

Our view: long enough to answer the question fully, often a few short paragraphs. Start with a direct answer, then give reasons, an example and any caveats. Avoid long introductions about yourself.

15How do you disclose affiliation?

State your role and company in your profile credentials and in the answer itself when you mention your product. Be specific, such as "I work at Ledgerline". Don't hide the connection or post from accounts that look independent.

16How do you avoid answers being collapsed or removed?

Answer the question asked, without repeated links or sales language. Don't post the same answer to many questions. Follow Quora's policies on spam and self-promotion. If an answer is collapsed, read the reason and adjust your approach.

17How do you decide whether to continue?

Compare the time spent with results such as citations, referral traffic and leads. Our view: if answers aren't cited or read after a quarter, focus on channels that are.

18How do you write a strong first sentence?

Answer the question directly in the first sentence, such as "For a small finance team, the main options are A, B and C, depending on your accounting system." Then explain. Readers on Quora often see only the first lines before expanding, and engines often quote them.

19How do you mention your own product fairly?

Mention it only where it genuinely fits the question, alongside other options. Say who it's for and who it isn't for. State your affiliation in the same answer. Our view: a fair answer that includes alternatives is more credible and less likely to be collapsed.

20How do you build credibility on Quora?

Fill in your profile with your real name, role and relevant experience. Answer questions in your area regularly, not just those that mention your product. Credentials and a history of useful answers make readers more likely to trust you.

21How do you update old answers?

Revisit your answers when facts change, such as pricing or features. Edit them to stay accurate, and add a short note saying what changed. Outdated answers can be cited long after they're written.

22How does Quora fit with your other channels?

Quora is one channel among many. Our view: compare it with Reddit, review sites, your own content and community forums, and spend most time where your buyers are and where engines cite sources for your prompts.

23How do you measure Quora results?

Track views and upvotes on each answer, referral traffic to your site with UTM parameters and whether the answer is cited for your prompts. Record time spent so you can compare channels.

24How do you avoid sounding like an advert?

Write in the first person, as an individual with experience. Explain trade-offs and limits honestly. Avoid superlatives and calls to action. Answer follow-up comments helpfully. Our view: readers can tell when an answer is promotional, and so can moderators.

25How do you choose which expert should answer?

Pick people with real experience in the topic, such as product specialists, support leads or customer-facing engineers. Give them time to answer well. A few good answers from the right person are better than many rushed ones.

26How do you organise the work?

Keep a shared list of target questions, who's answering each, the date answered and the link. Review the list monthly and add new questions as they appear.

27How do you respond to comments?

Reply to questions and corrections in the comments on your answers. Thank people who add useful detail. If someone points out an error, fix it and say so. Don't argue with critics or delete fair criticism. Our view: how you handle comments shows readers whether your answers can be trusted.

28What topics work best?

Questions about choosing between approaches, solving specific problems and understanding how a process works tend to suit Quora. Broad questions such as "what is the best software?" attract many answers, so a specific, experienced answer stands out more on narrower questions.

29When should you stop?

If answers aren't read, cited or bringing visits after a quarter, stop and move the time to channels that work better for your buyers. Write down what you learned, so anyone who restarts the work later doesn't repeat the same tests.

30Common questions

Should we use a brand account? Our view: individual experts with clear affiliation are usually more credible than a brand account.

Can we link to our site in answers? Yes, where it directly helps, but don't add links to every answer.

Is Quora better than Reddit? It depends on your audience. Check which is cited for your prompts.
