Buyer Prompt Library: 50 Prompts to Test Your Brand Across AI Engines

This template gives you 50 buyer prompts in five groups (problem, category, shortlist, comparison and validation) to test whether AI engines recommend your brand. Replace the placeholders, run each prompt several times in each engine, and score each answer as absent, mentioned or recommended. The result is a baseline you can re-test monthly.

Prompts are templates, not MentionX data. Fill the [brackets] with your own terms.

How do you adapt the library to your market?

  • B2B: add prompts about security reviews, procurement and integrations with your buyers' core systems.
  • Ecommerce: add budget, size, delivery and returns prompts. ChatGPT treats these as shopping intent and may show product results (OpenAI).
  • Local services: add "near me" and city prompts, and note the test location, since ChatGPT can use approximate location from the IP address (OpenAI).
  • Several languages: translate the prompts naturally rather than word for word, and test each language separately.

Keep the core 50 stable over time so trends stay comparable. Add new prompts as a separate set.

What mistakes should you avoid?

  • Writing prompts that sound like ad copy ("most innovative platform for…")
  • Testing only branded prompts
  • Changing the wording between runs
  • Running everything once from a personalised account
  • Low scores in A–B: engines don't connect your category to the problem. Publish educational content.
  • Low in C: missing from shortlists. Check positioning and third-party roundups.
  • Low in D: comparisons favour competitors. Read the reasons.
  • Errors in E: wrong facts. See Fix wrong facts.

Questions

How many prompts do I need to test AI visibility?

Start with 50 across the buyer journey. That's enough to spot patterns without being unmanageable. Repeat each prompt several times because answers vary.

Should I include my brand name in test prompts?

Mostly not. Unbranded prompts show whether you're recommended unprompted. Keep a small branded set to check facts and sentiment.

How often should I re-run the prompts?

Monthly is a practical default, plus after major site changes or model releases.
