What Is sameAs? Definition and Example
sameAs is a schema.org property that lists URLs which unambiguously identify the same entity, for example a company's official social profiles or its Wikidata item. Schema.org defines it as the "URL of a reference Web page that unambiguously indicates the item's identity" (schema.org). Google's Organization structured data documentation shows sameAs in its examples (Google).

What should and shouldn't go in it?
| Include | Avoid |
|---|---|
| Official social and video profiles | Pages that merely mention you |
| Your Wikidata item, if one exists | Competitors or partners |
| Official app store or marketplace profiles | Profiles you don't control or that are abandoned |
Example
Illustrative. A company with a common name has three different "X Labs" profiles appearing in AI answers. Adding sameAs links to its official LinkedIn, X and YouTube accounts gives systems an explicit, machine-readable statement of which profiles belong to it.
How do you check your sameAs?
- View your homepage source or test it in Google's Rich Results Test.
- Confirm every URL resolves and is still active.
- Make sure the name and description match across profiles.
Why it matters for GEO
AI systems describe entities using whatever sources they can connect. sameAs is a small, explicit signal that ties your scattered profiles to one identity, reducing the risk of confusion with similarly named brands.
Common mistakes
- Listing every page that mentions you, which dilutes the signal.
- Leaving links to deleted or renamed profiles.
- Adding sameAs on every page with different lists; keep one consistent block.
