ChatGPT for Content: Blogs, Landing Pages and Ads
A ChatGPT workflow for blog posts, landing pages and ad copy: briefs, drafts, editing passes and checks, with prompts you can copy.
The reliable ChatGPT content workflow is brief, outline, section drafts from your notes, then editing passes: one for claims, one for voice, one for cuts. Asking for a finished post in one prompt gives you something publishable-looking and forgettable.
- Start every piece from a brief with audience, angle, proof and the one thing a reader should do.
- Draft section by section, feeding your own notes, data and examples.
- Run separate editing passes for claims, voice and length.
- For ads, ask for variants by hook type and check platform limits yourself.
- ChatGPT Work can turn a brief into a Google Doc when the Google Workspace app is enabled.

01What does the workflow look like?
| Stage | Your input | ChatGPT's job |
|---|---|---|
| Brief | Goal, audience, angle, proof | Tighten the brief, ask questions |
| Outline | Brief, search results you trust | Propose structure, flag thin sections |
| Draft | Your notes, examples, data | Write sections from them |
| Claims pass | Fact sheet | List and check every claim |
| Voice pass | Published examples | Match tone, remove hype |
| Cut pass | Target length | Remove repetition and filler |
02Which prompts work at each stage?
BRIEF
Turn these notes into a content brief: [paste]. Include:
audience and their situation, the question the piece answers,
our angle (what we say that others don't), proof we'll use,
the reader's next action, and what's out of scope. Ask me
about anything missing.SECTION DRAFT
Write the section "[H2]" using only these notes: [paste].
Lead with the answer in the first sentence. Use one concrete
example. Max [n] words. Mark claims needing a source [CHECK].CLAIMS PASS
List every factual claim in this draft. For each, say whether
it's supported by the fact sheet in this project, needs an
external source, or should be cut.LANDING PAGE
Draft a landing page for [offer] aimed at [audience].
Sections: hero (3 headline options under 10 words), problem,
how it works in 3 steps, proof (from this list only: [paste]),
objections and answers, CTA. Return as a table: section,
copy, purpose.AD VARIANTS
Write 12 ad variants for [offer] on [platform]: 3 each of
pain-led, outcome-led, proof-led and curiosity hooks. Respect
these limits: headline [n] characters, body [n]. Show the
character count for each.Check character counts yourself; models often miscount. A spreadsheet LEN() column is quicker than trusting the count.
03When should you use ChatGPT Work instead of chat?
Use Work when the output is a file: a brief in Google Docs, a content calendar in Sheets or a deck. OpenAI says Work supports native Google Docs, Sheets and Slides when the relevant app is enabled, and Excel through the desktop add-in. Name the output format, the template to match and what must stay unchanged. For a single paragraph, chat is faster.
Our view: the best content still starts with something only you have: a customer story, your data, a strong opinion. ChatGPT makes the rest faster; it can't supply that part.
04Worked example: Ledgerline's comparison post
Ledgerline is a fictional accounts-payable tool. Details are illustrative.
Ledgerline needed a post on approval workflows for mid-market finance teams. The brief listed three customer stories and an internal metric the team was allowed to share. ChatGPT proposed an outline; the team cut one section that only restated the problem.
Drafting section by section from interview notes kept specific details in. The claims pass flagged two statements about "industry average approval times" with no source; both were cut. The final post was 1,100 words, shorter than the first one-shot draft and far more specific.
05What should you check before the next lesson?
- Write a brief for your next piece using the brief prompt.
- Run the claims pass on something you've already published.
- Add a LEN() check to your ad copy sheet.
- The Claude track covers this in Claude brief to draft and Claude ad copy testing.
