ChatGPT Image Generation for Marketing Campaigns
How to use ChatGPT Images for campaign concepts, social visuals and edits: prompts, brand consistency, plan limits and usage rules.
ChatGPT Images is good for campaign concepts, social visuals, mock-ups and edits to existing images, and it handles text in images far better than older tools. Treat its output as a draft for most brand work: check text, likenesses, logos and claims, and keep a prompt that reproduces your style.
- ChatGPT Images is on every plan. Images with thinking is on Plus, Pro and Business.
- You can edit by selecting part of an image, set any aspect ratio and start from templates.
- OpenAI publishes no fixed image counts; limits vary by plan and demand.
- Write a reusable style prompt so campaign images stay consistent.
- Don't generate real people, competitor logos or misleading product shots.

01What can ChatGPT Images do for marketers?
According to OpenAI's Images article and release notes (ChatGPT Images 2.5, September 2026):
- Create images from a prompt, or from Images → Templates.
- Edit an uploaded or generated image, either by selecting an area or describing the change.
- Add text, add details and make backgrounds transparent.
- Generate in any aspect ratio via the picker or the prompt.
- Share a prompt so colleagues can make their own version.
Generation can take a few minutes. On Free and Go, OpenAI is testing a labelled multi-image ad shown while an image generates; it disappears when your image is ready.
02Which marketing uses work well?
| Use | Works well? | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Campaign concept boards | Yes | Generate 4-6 directions before briefing a designer |
| Social post visuals | Yes | Set the aspect ratio per platform |
| Blog header images | Yes | Keep a style prompt for consistency |
| Product photos | With care | Edits of real photos are safer than invented products |
| Infographics with data | With care | Check every number and label |
| Logos and brand marks | No | Use your designer and brand files |
03How do you keep images on brand?
Write one style prompt and reuse it.
STYLE PROMPT: [Brand]
Flat illustration, limited palette of [hex codes], soft
shadows, rounded shapes, generous white space, no gradients,
no stock-photo people. Text, if any, in a clean sans-serif,
sentence case. Mood: calm, competent.CAMPAIGN CONCEPTS
Using the style above, create 4 different concepts for a
campaign about [message] aimed at [audience]. Vary the visual
metaphor in each. Aspect ratio 1:1. No text.EDIT
Keep everything the same except: replace the headline text
with "[exact text]" and change the background to [colour].Save your best prompts in your brand project (lesson 3), or in a skill (lesson 4), so the team uses one style.
04What rules apply?
OpenAI's usage policies prohibit deception, fraud, impersonation and political campaigning. For marketing that means no fake testimonials with generated faces, no images that imply a real person endorses you and no misleading product shots. Add your own rules: disclose AI imagery where your market or platform requires it, and keep a record of prompts for anything published.
Our view: use generated images where an illustration is honest about being an illustration. Use real photos for customers, staff and product results.
05Worked example: Ledgerline's webinar visuals
Ledgerline is a fictional accounts-payable tool. Details are illustrative.
Ledgerline needed visuals for a webinar on month-end close. The designer was booked, so the marketer used the brand style prompt to generate four concepts. "A calendar page turning into a checklist" won. The designer refined it into the final key visual; ChatGPT then produced social variants in three aspect ratios and swapped the headline text for each channel. Every text element was proofread, and one misspelt date was fixed with an edit prompt.
06What should you check before the next lesson?
- Write a style prompt for your brand and test it on two concepts.
- Agree which image uses need a designer's sign-off.
- Check your platforms' rules on AI-generated imagery.
