Short answer

Ask Advisor is Gemini inside Google's marketing tools. Google announced it on 20 May 2026 at Google Marketing Live, as one agent that joins up its in-product AI agents across Google Ads, Google Analytics, Merchant Center and Google Marketing Platform. Inside Google Ads it answers account questions, explains performance changes, troubleshoots policy and billing issues, suggests keywords and creative, builds reports, and can make changes you approve. It's in beta for English-language accounts, so treat it as a fast analyst and junior operator whose work you check, not an autopilot.

Key takeaways
  • One Gemini agent across Ads, Analytics, Merchant Center and Google Marketing Platform. Google describes it as orchestrating "a team of expert agents".
  • Open it from the Ask Advisor icon (Beta badge) at the top right of Google Ads, or type into the top search bar.
  • It isn't available in manager (MCC) accounts and appears only in eligible accounts.
  • It can pause campaigns, change budgets, locations and final URLs, and appeal disapprovals, all with your approval.
  • Save business context, such as "I only care about ROAS on non-brand", so its answers fit your goals.

01What is Ask Advisor, and what did it replace?

Before May 2026, Google had separate in-product agents, such as the Gemini-powered advisors in Google Ads and Google Analytics. Ask Advisor joins them into one experience. Google's example: say "find new customers for my hair care products", and Ask Advisor pulls product details from Merchant Center to set up a new Google Ads campaign. It can also explain results using data from both Google Ads and Google Analytics.

02What can it do in Google Ads?

Based on Google's help page examples:

ThemeExample prompts
Performance reports"How did my campaign perform week over week?" "Generate a graph of impressions in the last 30 days"
Diagnosis"Why did my branded campaign's clicks decrease?" "When were bids changed for this campaign?"
Policy"Why is my ad disapproved? What do I need to fix?" "Please appeal the disapproved ads"
Identity verification and billing"Have I submitted all documents required?" "Why did my payment fail?"
Optimisation"How can I optimise my Performance Max campaign?" "Audit my creative assets for Campaign A"
Creative"Help me come up with better headlines" "Generate images for my new Performance Max campaign"
Keywords"Suggest keywords for my non-brand search campaign"
Changes"Pause campaign X" "Update daily budget of campaign C to $10" "Update my final URL"
Market insights"How am I performing against my peers?" "Any seasonal trends I should know about?"

Google says generated images come from your landing page or are generated by Google AI. You keep editorial control. Always confirm billing status, identity verification and policy appeal outcomes in Account Settings itself.

03How do you prompt it well?

Google's own tips: be specific with keywords, campaign names and metrics; talk to it conversationally; use the suggested follow-ups. A structure that works:

Context: Non-brand search campaigns only, last 28 days vs previous 28 days, goal = demo requests (primary conversion).
Question: Which ad groups lost the most conversions, and what changed (bids, budgets, search terms, assets)?
Output: Table with ad group, conversions now / before, likely cause, suggested action. Don't change anything yet.

04What's a safe way to let it make changes?

Change typeOur rule
Reports, diagnosis, educationUse freely; spot-check numbers against the Google Ads UI
Asset and keyword suggestionsAccept into a draft, then have a person edit for brand and claims
Pausing, renaming, location or URL editsAllowed after review; note it in your change log
Budget changesOnly within a pre-agreed range; a person confirms
Bid strategy changes, new campaignsPlan with Ask Advisor, then launch after a normal review
Policy appealsFine to start; check the outcome in Policy manager

Our view: the biggest gain is diagnosis speed. "Why did conversions drop?" used to take an hour of segmenting, and now takes minutes. Accept the explanation as a hypothesis, check it in the change history and segment reports, then act.

05How does it fit with Google Analytics?

Ask Advisor's cross-product promise is that it can combine Google Ads and Google Analytics data. In practice:

  • Make sure Google Ads and GA4 are linked, and key events are imported (GA4 key events import).
  • Ask questions that need both: "Which campaigns drive sessions that later convert on the pricing page?"
  • Check results in GA4 explorations before you change budgets.

Google also announced a reimagined Google Analytics 360 "command center" at GML 2026. Check your own property for what's live.

06What about visibility in AI Mode?

Ask Advisor manages ads, not organic visibility. Ads can appear in and around AI Overviews and AI Mode through eligible campaigns such as AI Max for Search and Performance Max. See ads in AI Overviews and AI Mode. For earned visibility in Gemini and AI Mode, see lessons 13-20 of this track.

07Worked example: Ledgerline

Ledgerline is a fictional accounts-payable software company. Details are illustrative.

Ledgerline's demo requests from search fell 18% month on month, and the paid search manager used Ask Advisor to diagnose it.

StepAsk Advisor output (illustrative)Human check
"Why did demo requests from non-brand search drop?"Two ad groups lost impression share after a budget cap was hit mid-monthConfirmed in change history and budget report
"What changed in search terms?"More informational queries matched after a broad match expansionConfirmed in search terms report; negatives added by hand
"Suggest new headlines for the approvals ad group"10 headlines4 kept after brand and claims review
"Update daily budget of Campaign C to $120"Change proposedApproved within the agreed range

Walkthrough

  1. The manager saved business context: primary conversion, markets, and the brand exclusion.
  2. She asked the diagnosis question with a 28-day comparison and "don't change anything yet".
  3. She checked each claimed cause in the Google Ads UI before acting.
  4. She approved only the budget change within the agreed range, and logged it.
  5. Two weeks later she asked Ask Advisor to report the effect week over week.

08Common mistakes

  • Treating answers as facts. Verify in reports.
  • Letting it change budgets without limits.
  • Skipping saved business context.
  • Expecting it in MCC accounts. Open the client account directly.
  • Publishing generated assets without a claims review.

09Try it yourself

Open Ask Advisor in one eligible account. Save three business rules in Saved info. Ask: "How did my campaigns perform week over week, and what changed?" Verify two of its claims in the change history. Then ask for five headline ideas for your weakest ad group and edit them yourself.

10Quick quiz

1. Which products does Ask Advisor span?

Answer: Google Ads, Google Analytics, Merchant Center and Google Marketing Platform.

2. Where is it not available?

Answer: Manager (MCC) accounts.

3. Can it change campaigns?

Answer: Yes, with your approval, for example pausing campaigns or updating budgets.

11What should you check before the next lesson?

  • You've saved business context in Ask Advisor.
