Short answer

Gemini comes in two families of plans. Personal Google AI plans run from Free through paid Plus, Pro and Ultra tiers. Read the current prices on gemini.google/subscriptions before you quote them. Business plans are Google Workspace editions, plus Gemini Enterprise, whose Business price is on Google's Gemini for Work page. Confirm that price the day you brief a client. For a marketing team doing company work, start with a Workspace business edition, because it comes with admin controls and Google's commitment not to train on company data. Add a personal Pro seat only for people who need Gemini 4 Argon or Flow and are not handling client data.

Key takeaways
  • Free includes more than most people expect: Deep Research, Canvas, Gemini Live, image generation and Gemini Notebook, on a Flash-Lite model.
  • AI Pro is the personal tier that includes Gemini 4 Argon. Check the plan page for the current price, Flow credits and storage.
  • Workspace Business Starter now includes the Gemini app and Gemini in Gmail. Standard and above add Gemini in Docs, Meet and more.
  • Gemini Enterprise is for teams building agents across company data. Confirm the current per-user price on Google's page before you quote it.
  • The Gemini API is billed separately, per token. See lesson 10.

Checked 5 November 2026 (CET) against Gemini Apps Help, the Gemini release notes, Google Workspace Help, Google Search Central, Search Console Help, the Gemini API docs and the Google blog posts cited in Sources. Google renames and moves Gemini features often, so confirm labels and limits in your own account. "Our view" marks MentionX opinion. Ledgerline is a fictional company used for illustration.

01What do the personal Google AI plans include?

Prices are the US list prices on Google's subscriptions page on 5 November 2026. Local prices and features vary by country.

PlanUS priceModels in the Gemini appHighlights for marketers
Free$0Flash-LiteDeep Research, Canvas, Gemini Live, image generation, Flow with limited Nano Banana Pro, Gemini Notebook, 15 GB storage
Google AI PlusSee the plan pageFlashVideo generation and a Flow credit allowance. Confirm the amount that day
Google AI ProSee the plan pageGemini 4 Argon, Pro and FlashA larger Flow credit allowance and Gemini in Gmail and Docs. Confirm storage and credits that day
Google AI UltraSee the plan pageThe highest personal allowanceThe largest Flow credit allowance. Confirm the tiers that day

Usage multiples are relative to the free plan. Google publishes them as multiples, not as exact prompt counts, and the limits for features such as Deep Research change. Our view: don't build a team process around a specific daily limit. Build it around the plan tier, then check the Help Center limits page when someone hits a wall.

02What do Workspace business editions include?

If your company already pays for Google Workspace, you probably have Gemini already. Google folded Gemini into the editions rather than selling it as a separate add-on.

EditionUS price per user/month (annual / flexible)Gemini features
Business Starter$7 / $8.40The Gemini app; Gemini in Gmail; business data not used to train models
Business Standard$14 / $16.80All of Starter, plus Gemini in Docs, Sheets, Slides, Meet and more; Gemini Notebook with expanded access
Business Plus$22 / $26.40All of Standard, plus stronger security and archiving (Vault)
EnterpriseContact salesFull feature set plus advanced controls; add-ons such as AI Expanded Access

The Workspace pricing page puts the key data line plainly: "Chat with AI in Gemini, your company data is not used to train models." That sentence is why business editions beat personal plans for client work.

03What is Gemini Enterprise?

Gemini Enterprise is Google Cloud's agent platform for work. The Business price is on the Gemini for Work page. Read it the day you quote it. It's aimed at teams that want to:

  • Search across company data in Google and non-Google systems.
  • Build and share agents with no-code tools.
  • Run Google-built agents, such as Deep Research, against internal sources.

For most marketing teams, a Workspace edition covers daily drafting and analysis. Gemini Enterprise starts to make sense when you need an agent that reads your CRM, your wiki and your Drive together, and IT is willing to manage it.

05What hidden costs should you plan for?

  • API usage. The Gemini app subscription doesn't include API usage. Gemini 4 Argon in the API has no free tier and an introductory price that rises after 30 November 2026 (lesson 10).
  • Grounding with Google Search in the API. On Gemini 3 and later models, the first 5,000 search queries a month are free, then it costs $14 per 1,000.
  • Flow credits. Video uses credits quickly. Plan a monthly budget per project.
  • Storage. Storage is bundled with the plan, so moving a seat down a tier can break Drive sync.
  • Seat sprawl. Personal AI Pro plans paid on expense cards are hard to audit. Pick one route.

Our view: the cheapest mistake to avoid is paying twice. Teams often pay for Workspace Business Standard and then also expense AI Pro for the same people. Check what Workspace already gives you, and buy AI Pro only for a named gap such as Flow credits.

06Worked example: Ledgerline

Ledgerline is a fictional accounts-payable software company. Details are illustrative.

Ledgerline has 14 marketers on Workspace Business Starter. Three writers were expensing personal AI Pro, and the video lead wanted AI Ultra.

Walkthrough

  1. Marketing ops listed every Gemini-related charge from expense reports and the Workspace bill.
  2. The admin confirmed which Gemini services were on for marketing's organisational unit.
  3. The team upgraded to Business Standard and cancelled the three personal Pro plans.
  4. The video lead got one AI Pro seat, limited by policy to public assets, with a 90-day review.
  5. The team noted the API as a separate line item to scope in lesson 10.

07Common mistakes

  • Comparing personal plans with business editions on price alone. The data terms and admin controls differ.
  • Assuming Business Starter has no Gemini. It now includes the Gemini app and Gemini in Gmail.
  • Expecting a Gemini app plan to cover the API.
  • Forgetting introductory prices. Several API and plan prices have published end dates.
  • Buying Ultra for a team. It's priced per person, so one or two creative seats is usually enough.

08Try it yourself

Make a three-column sheet: person, current Gemini access (personal plan, Workspace edition, API), and the jobs they need Gemini for. Mark any person whose jobs need a feature their plan lacks. Price the smallest change that covers everyone. Then check the admin console for features that are paid for but switched off.

09Quick quiz

1. Which Workspace edition is the first to include Gemini in Docs?

Answer: Business Standard. Starter includes the Gemini app and Gemini in Gmail.

2. Does Google AI Pro include Gemini API usage?

Answer: No. The API is billed separately, per token.

3. What's the US monthly price of Google AI Pro?

Answer: $19.99.

10What should you check before the next lesson?

  • You know which Gemini plan or edition each marketer uses.
  • Your admin has confirmed which Gemini services are on for marketing.
  • You have one written rule for when a personal plan is allowed.
