Short answer

For individual marketing work, ChatGPT Plus is the realistic starting plan, and for teams that touch customer or client data, ChatGPT Business is the safer default. Free and Go are fine for trying prompts but limit the tools marketers lean on most: deep research, data analysis, image generation and ChatGPT Work. Pro is for people who run long agent tasks all day.

Key takeaways
  • OpenAI sells six main plans: Free, Go, Plus and Pro for individuals, Business and Enterprise for organisations.
  • Plus adds ChatGPT Work on web and mobile, Sites, interactive charts and larger limits. Free and Go get Work only in the desktop app, with limits.
  • Ads may appear on Free and Go in ad markets. Paid plans from Plus up are ad-free.
  • On personal plans your chats can be used for training unless you switch it off. Business and Enterprise data is not used for training by default.
  • Prices vary by country and change. Read chatgpt.com/pricing in your region rather than trusting a blog figure, including this one.

Checked 4 November 2026 (CET) against OpenAI help center articles and chatgpt.com pages. ChatGPT changes often, so confirm plan details in your own account. "Our view" marks MentionX opinion. Ledgerline is a fictional company used for illustration.

01What does each ChatGPT plan include?

The table summarises the pricing page as it stood on 4 November 2026. "Limited" means OpenAI lists the feature with a lower allowance, not a fixed number.

PlanWho it suitsWhat matters for marketing
FreeTrying ChatGPTSearch, limited data analysis, limited image generation and deep research, desktop-only Work with limits. May show ads.
GoLight personal useMore messages, uploads, image creation and memory than Free. May show ads.
PlusIndividual marketersWork on web and mobile, Sites, interactive tables and charts, developer mode (beta), image generation with thinking, more deep research. No ads.
Pro (100, 200, 500)Heavy agent and research usersEverything in Plus with much higher usage, Pro reasoning, dots, ChatGPT Space.
BusinessTeams of two or moreShared workspace, admin controls, no training on workspace data, skills.
EnterpriseLarger organisationsBusiness controls plus compliance, data residency options and annual contracts.

OpenAI's Pro tiers article lists Pro 100 at $100, Pro 200 at $200 and Pro 500 at $500 a month (USD). It does not publish a usage count for each tier. The pricing page renders other prices for your location, and the FAQ notes that paid plans are priced per user per month, with Business billed monthly or annually and Enterprise annually.

Our view: if you can't say which tool you'd use more on a higher plan, you don't need it yet. Upgrade when you hit a limit on real work, not in advance.

02Which features will a marketer actually use?

Most marketing work in ChatGPT uses a handful of tools. These are the ones this track covers, with the lesson for each.

FeatureWhat it does for marketersLesson
Chat with searchQuick drafts and current facts with citations2
Projects, memory, custom instructionsKeeps brand voice and context between chats3
Plugins and skillsConnects Google Drive, Slack and other tools; packages repeat workflows4, 12
ImagesCampaign visuals, concepts and edits8
Data analysisReads CSV and Excel exports and makes charts9
Deep researchMulti-source reports with citations10
ChatGPT WorkLonger tasks that end in a doc, deck, sheet or Site11
Scheduled tasksRecurring briefs and monitors13

03How have ChatGPT's names changed?

If you learned ChatGPT in 2025, several terms have moved. This matters when you search the help center or follow older tutorials.

  • Agent mode is gone. OpenAI's help center says ChatGPT agent is no longer available and points to ChatGPT Work for longer, multi-step tasks.
  • Apps and connectors now sit inside plugins. On 9 July 2026 the App Directory became the Plugin Directory. Apps still connect services; plugins bundle apps, skills and templates.
  • Custom GPTs are being retired. New GPT creation is closed on personal plans and OpenAI plans to move GPTs to plugins. Lesson 4 covers what to do.
  • Library is becoming Space for Pro, Business and Enterprise accounts that have it.

04What about privacy and ads?

Two plan differences matter more to marketers than any model name.

Training. On personal Free, Plus and Pro workspaces, OpenAI's data controls article says "Improve the model for everyone" is on by default. You can switch it off in Settings, then Data controls. Business data is not used for training, according to OpenAI's Business overview. If you paste client briefs or customer lists, use Business or switch the setting off, and read lesson 18.

Ads. OpenAI began testing ads on 9 February 2026 in the US and has since expanded to more countries. Ads may appear on Free and Go below a response, labelled as sponsored. OpenAI says ads do not influence answers and that advertisers do not see your chats. Plus and higher plans are ad-free. Lesson 15 covers buying those ads.

05Worked example: Ledgerline picks plans

Ledgerline is a fictional accounts-payable tool. Details are illustrative.

Ledgerline's five-person marketing team started with everyone on personal Plus accounts. Within a month two problems appeared: shared prompts lived in a document nobody opened, and one writer had pasted customer interview notes into a personal account with training switched on.

They moved to a Business workspace. That gave them shared projects, workspace skills, admin control over which plugins could connect, and no training on workspace data. One analyst who runs long research jobs every day kept a Pro seat for herself. Everyone else stayed on Business seats.

06What should you check before the next lesson?

  • Open chatgpt.com/pricing signed in, in your country, and note the plan prices you see.
  • Check Settings, then Data controls, and decide whether "Improve the model for everyone" should stay on.
  • List the three tasks you'll use ChatGPT for most this month.
  • If you already use Claude, compare with the Claude plans lesson.

07Common questions

Which ChatGPT plan is best for a marketer? For most individual marketers, Plus is the practical floor: it adds ChatGPT Work on web and mobile, Sites, interactive tables and charts and more deep research. Teams handling client or customer data should use Business, where OpenAI does not train on workspace data.

Does ChatGPT Free show ads? Ads may appear on Free and Go in countries where OpenAI runs ads. Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise and Edu accounts do not show ads. Free users in ad markets can switch to an ads-free mode with lower limits.

How much does ChatGPT cost? OpenAI lists Pro at $100, $200 and $500 a month in US dollars. Other prices are shown on chatgpt.com/pricing and vary by country, so check that page in your own region before budgeting.
